Why is sleep important?
Sleep is essential for your childs physical and mental development. Insufficient, or poor quality sleep may contribute to lack of concentration and behavioural problems.

How much sleep does my child require?
Each child is different and has different sleep needs. The amount of sleep a child requires also depends on their age and activity levels. The following table serves as a guideline for the recommended number of hours sleep required: -

5-12 years - 9-11
Teenagers - 8.5 9.5
Adults 7-9

Sleeping tips

  • Ensure that your child has regular and consistent sleep by setting clear boundaries for lights out.
  • Make your childs bedroom environment conducive to sleep dark, quiet with a comfortable temperature.
  • Avoid placing televisions and computer equipment in your childs bedroom.
  • Ensure that your child does not have drinks that contain caffeine (such as cola, tea, coffee) several hours before bedtime.
