Exercise
Regular physical activity, along with eating a healthy, balanced diet will help your child to maintain a healthy weight and ensures that their body functions as efficiently as possible. By helping children and young people to enjoy sports and active pursuits you improve the chances of them continuing with these choices for life.
- The Department of Health recommends that children and young people have at least 60 minutes of at least moderate intensity exercise every day (e.g. walking, cycling, play)
- It is also recommended that activities that increase muscle strength and flexibility, and also improve bone strength, should be included at least twice a week.
- Encourage an active lifestyle by walking and cycling to work, school or other destinations wherever possible.
- Encourage your child to try a number of different classes/clubs so that they can discover which sports/activities they like and want to continue.
- Try to set a good example -ensure that your whole family adopts an active lifestyle.
