Supporting your child's behaviour
- Continue to insist on courtesy and good manners
- As your child grows older the rules and boundaries may need to be reviewed to reflect different behaviour or to show your child that you are letting them take more responsibility.
- Help your child to learn how to control themselves by modelling the kind of language and behaviour that you expect from your child even when angry avoid losing control, shouting and swearing.
- Lower your voice and look at your child while talking to them. Children learn by example.
- When there are problems, focus on the effects of your childs behaviour rather than on his/her personality (i.e. say when you do that it makes me feel rather than you make me feel)
